A Study out of UC Berkeley concludes that Sobriety checkpoints are cash cows for the government and towing companies.  While courts have carved out an exception to the US Constitution’s  warrant requirement for the limited purpose of reducing deaths on the road due to drunk driving it appears our boys in blue may have ulterior motives.

It now appears that in an attempt to squeeze more money out of people vehicles are being confiscated from unlicensed drivers.  Many of these drivers are poor illegal immigrants.  The unlicensed driver’s car is impounded and not reclaimed in many cases.  Anyone who needs a car to get to and or from employment is either left stranded without an income or forced to purchase another vehicle to drive around in uninsured.
